About Us

The Alberta Digital Radio Communications Society was formed in 2022 to promote the use and develop new technologies using digital communication in Amateur Radio. It is the sponsor of the AREDN network in Western Canada, in the time since its inception it has grown from a single node to a network that spans the province, and includes the NW Territories, Eastern BC and parts of Northern Montana. The society has developed several server-based applications on the network, including weather information gathering and dissemination, secure e-mail, telemetry and others.

Recently the society has started an effort to bring ad-hoc networking to the UHF bands, using off the shelf components that conform to the 802.15.4 standard. This project is in its inception, and we welcome participation. For more information see the IP400 Networking page.

Announcements

The society is pleased to announce a plan to deploy its digital linking hub by Q3 of this year, which will be the first IP400 supernode with 900 and 400 MHz inputs, with a connection to the AREDN network . Both analog and digital modes will be supported, as well as Meshphone and hot spot remote access.
